Lost My Heart In Tuscany

English: 15/5/2025 I traveled in spring to Tuscany again this year! I must have lost my heart in Tuscany... Because there's no other way to explain why this wonderful region fascinates and captivates me as a photographer! When the conditions are right and the valleys disappear into the mist in the morning and the contours of the landscape with its farmhouses and cypress avenues become vaguely visible with the first light, it's pure magic to be able to capture this scenery in the interplay of natural elements! Unfortunately the poppies sulla flowers which add beautiful accents with their red color bloomed rather sparsely! However, the changeable spring weather also created excitement in the evenings when the warm light transformed the green hills into a pastel-colored painting!

Deutsch: Auch in diesem Jahr reiste ich im Frühjahr in die Toskana! Ich muss mein Herz in der Toskana veloren haben...Denn anders lässt es sich nicht erklären, warum mich diese wundervolle Gegend als Fotograf so faziniert und in seinen Bann zieht! Wenn die Bedingungen gegeben und am Morgen jeweils die Täler im Nebel verschwinden und mit dem ersten Licht die Konturen der Landschaft mit seinen Bauernhäuser und Zypressenalleen schemenhaft zu erkennen sind, ist es pure Magie diese Szenerie im Wechselspiel der Naturelemte festhalten zu dürfen! In diesem Jahr blühte der Mohn und die Sulla Blumen, welche mit ihrer roten Farbe wunderschöne Akzente setzen, eher spärlich! Jedoch sorgte das wechselhafte Frühlingswetter auch Abends für Spannung, wenn das warme Licht die grüne Hügellandschaft in ein pastellfarbendes Gemälde verwandelte!

Vietnam A New Experience

English: 15/10/2024 This year I also traveled to Southeast Asia in the fall! I swapped the golden season in Switzerland to photograph the rice terraces in Vietnam, which were now changing color from green to yellow. It was supposed to be a short trip to get to know Vietnam... Impressed by the landscape and the people as well as the fabulous food, I returned to Thailand after 10 days with many impressions in time for the last rehearsals of the Royal Barge Ceremony in Bangkok.

Deutsch: 15/10/2024 Auch in diesem reiste ich im Herbst nach Südost Asien! Die goldene Jahreszeit in der Schweiz tauschte ich ein, um in Vietnam die Reisterassen, welche nun auch ihre Farbe von grün auf gelb wechselte, zu fotografieren. Es sollte eine kurze Reise werden, um Vietnam kennen zu lernen...Beindruckt von der Landschaft und den Menschen sowie dem fabelhaften Essen, kehrte ich mit vielen Eindrücken nach 10 Tagen rechtzeitig zu den letzten Proben der Königlichen Barken Zermonie in Bangkok, nach Thailand zurück.

Moving To Fujifilm GFX System

English: In August 2024, I decided to definitely moving to Fujifilm's medium format, especially after my first experiences with this system at the Fujifilm Experience Days in the spring of this year. After the test days with Fujifilm in the Swiss mountains, I was really excited and was happy to finally hold my own GFX in my hands and start taking photos...The quality of the shots reminded me of the time when I was still working with Leica camera! Nevertheless, the large image sensor of the Fujifilm GFX 100II is incomparable and the quality of the shots is beyond any doubt: An impressive dynamic with the same sharpness and plasticity results when taking photos. It was supposed to be a few simple test shots during the descent from the Justistal in the Bernese Oberland. I'm going to Vietnam and Thailand for several weeks soon and that will give me the opportunity to gain further experience with the new system.

Deutsch: Wechsel zu Fujifilm Medium Format. Im August 2024 entschloss ich mich, insbesondere nach den ersten Erfahrungen mit diesem System an den Fujifilm Experience Days im Frühling diesen Jahres, definitiv auf das Medium Format von Fujifilm zu wechseln. Nach den Testtagen mit Fujifilm in den Schweizer Bergen, war die Erwartung dementspechend gross und ich freute mich endlich eine eigene GFX in den Händen zu halten und mit dem fotografieren zu beginnen...Die Qualität der Aufnahmen erinnerte mich an die Zeit, wo ich noch mit Leica Camera arbeitete! Dennoch, der grosse Bildsensor der Fujifilm GFX 100II ist unvergleichbar und die Qualität der Aufnahmen sind über jeden Zweifel erhaben: Eine beeindruckende Dynamik mit ebensolcher Schärfe und Plastizität ergibt sich beim fotografieren. Ein paar einfache Testaufnahmen sollten es werden, während dem Alpabzug aus dem Justistal im Berner Oberland. Schon bald geht es für mehrere Wochen nach Vietnam und Thailand und da bietet sich die Gelgenheit mit dem neuen System weitere Erfahrungen zu sammeln.

English: 18/6/2024 In June of this year I went to Thailand for four weeks to do some long-planned drone footage in the south of the country. During the same period, filming for the new Jurassic World 4 film was carried out in the same area. While waiting for the perfect conditions and moment there was enough time to explore new areas and angles which I will be visiting again soon.

Deutsch: 18/6/2024 Im Juni dieses Jahres ging es für vier Wochen nach Thailand, um schon lange geplante Dronenaufnahmen im Süden des Landes zu realisieren. Im gleichen Zeitraum wurde in derselben Gegend Filmaufnahmen für den neuen Jurasicworld 4 Film, realsiert. Also ungünstiger Zeitpunkt und dennoch, währen des Wartens auf die perfekten Verhältnisse, blieb genug Zeit um neue Blickwinkel zu erkunden, welche ich schon bald wieder aufsuchen werde.

English: 10/5/2024 A magical trip was coming to an end! Varied weather provided fantastic conditions! The Scirocco wind brought pleasant temperatures and invited us to sit outside in the trattoria! In the morning it was rather cool and above all lonely, especially at the popular photo spots! The numerous photo trip groups of previous years were only occasionally to be found this year! The filming of the new film by George Clooney and Adam Sandler between Arezzo and the Val d’Orcia in the last two weeks caused more of a stir! At least the bodyguards while shopping in Pienza gave us some hope of meeting the Hollywood stars in person after all!

Deutsch: 10/5/2024 Eine zauberhafte Reise ging dem Ende entgegen! Abwechslungsreiches Wetter sorgte für traumhafte Bedingungen! Der Scirocco Wind brachte angenehme Temperaturen und lud ein zum draussen sitzen in der Trattoria! Am Morgen war es eher kühl und vorallem einsam, insbesondere bei den beliebten Fotospots! Die zahlreichen Fotoreise Gruppen der vergangenen Jahre, waren wenn überhaupt, nur vereinzelt anzutreffen in diesem Jahr! Für mehr aufsehen sorgte die letzen zwei Wochen die Dreharbeiten zum neuen Film von George Clooney und Adam Sandler zwischen Arezzo und dem Val d’Orcia! Immerhin sorgten die Bodyguards beim shopping in Pienza für etwas Hoffnung, den Holywood Stars doch noch live in den malerischen Gassen zu begegnen!

Die unglaubliche Bildqualität kommt auf dem Eizo Bildschirm so richtig zur Geltung. Das GFX Sortiment auf 2112m.ü.M. in zigfacher Anzahl zum Ausprobieren, ließ keine Wünsche offen und macht eine Entscheidung zum Systemwechsel einfacher den je! April 6, 2024

English: 13/12/2023 From the sandy edge to the snowy mountains...What a contrasting program! Within 48 hours of my return trip from Southeast Asia, the weather in the Swiss mountains promised very wintry conditions...But when I got home, green meadows in the lowlands and anything but winter feeling and the jet lag told me to arrive first and rest! In some regions it looked so promising and I hardly regretted the decision to be on the mountain in double-digit minus temperatures after what I experienced - pure winter enjoyment!

Deutsch: 13/12/2023 Vom Sandstrand in die Schneeberge...Was für ein Kontrast Programm! Innerhalb 48Stunden nach meiner Rückreise aus Südost Asien, versprach das Wetter in den Schweizer Bergen hoch winterliche Bedingungen...Aber zu Hause angekommen, im Flachland grüne Wiesen und alles ander als Winterfeeling und der Jetlag sagte zu mir, zuerst ankommen und ausruhen! In einigen Regionen sah es so vielversprechend aus und den Entscheid bei zweistelligen Minus - Temperturen am Berg zu sein, habe ich nach dem Erlebten, kaum bereut - Wintergenuss pur!

English: 8/11/2023 My 36th trip to the “Land of Smiles” should take place before the end of the year! With a focus on landscape photography in northern and southern Thailand, provided the weather cooperated, these should be my main travel destination! The rainy season lasted a little longer this year than usual and the previously announced El Niño year ensured changeable weather with the hoped-for conditions. Especially in the morning, when there was fog over the monsoon forest in the valleys and the sky was glowing, the happiness was perfect!

Deutsch: 8/11/2023 Meine 36. Reise ins "Land des Lächelns" sollte noch vor Ende des Jahres statt finden! Mit dem Schwerpunkt der Landschaftsfotografie in Nord und Südthailand, vorausgesetzt das Wetter spielte mit sollten dies meine Hauptreiseziehle werden! Die Regenzeit dauerte dieses Jahr etwas länger als sonst und das voraus angekündigte El Niño Jahr sorgte für wechselhaftes Wetter mit den erhofften Bedingungen. Vorallem am Morgen, wenn in den Tälern Nebel über dem Monsunwald lag und der Himmel glühte, war das Glück perfeckt!

English: 28/10/2023 The town of San Gimignano where I spent a few days was the first stop on my autumn landscape photography trip to Tuscany...I am in love with this town with its towers and alleys and on top of that you get the world's best ice cream. The classic landscapes of Tuscany, which can be recognized in photographs and paintings are not necessarily in the immediate surroundings, but in autumn when the leaves in the vineyards turn golden, promises countless photo opportunities.

Deutsch: 28/10/2023 Die Stadt San Gimignano, wo ich einige Tage verbracht habe, war die erste Station auf meiner Landschafts Fotografie Herbstreise in die Toskana...Ich bin verliebt in diese Stadt mit ihren Türmen und Gassen und obendrein gibt es hier das weltbeste gelato. Die klassischen Landschaften der Toskana, welche man auf Fotografien und Gemälden wieder erkennt, befinden sich zwar nicht unbedingt in umittlbarer Umbebung, dennoch verspricht der Herbst, wenn sich die Blätter in den Rebbergen goldig färben, unzählige Fotomotive.

English: 2/8/2023 I couldn't wait to see the time when the cotton grass bloomed in the Swiss mountains this year! While last year, due to the drought, the grass only thrived in very moist, exposed areas, this year I was hoping to find it in the areas that I had already discovered in other years! Since I was very optimistic, I was disappointed in some places... While the intensive search in other regions, paradisiacal conditions were waiting to be admired and captured.

Deutsch: 2/8/2023 Die Zeit der Wollgrasblühte in den Schweizer Bergen, konnte ich auch in diesem Jahr kaum erwarten zu sehen! Während im letzten Jahr, wegen der Trockenheit, das Gras nur an sehr feuchten exponierten Stellen gedeihte, erhoffte ich mir heuer auch an den Stellen, die ich bereits in anderen Jahren entdeckt hatte, fündig zu werden! Da ich sehr optimistisch war, wurde ich doch an einigen Stellen endtäuscht...Während die intensive Suche in anderen Regionen, paradiesische Zustände warteten, um bestaunt und festgehalten zu werden.

English: 4/7/2023 It's already early summer in the valleys while up in the mountains the snow is gradually diminishing and melting. The nights are still cold here at over two thousand meters above sea level and that is why the surface of the mountain lake is slowly forming freezes over again in the evening. During the day the water surface changes and makes for exciting picture compositions.

Deutsch: 4/7/2023 In den Tälern ist schon längst Frühsommer, während hier oben der Schnee so allmählich weniger wird und schmiltzt. Die Nächte sind noch kalt hier auf über zweitausend Höhenmetern und deshalb friert der langsam entstehende Bergsee an der Oberfläche Abends wieder zu.Tagsüber verändert sich die Wasseroberfläche und sorgt für spannende Bildkompostitionen.

To improve the security of your website, we strongly recommend that you update the website. For many years the site has been updated and the design I acquired from a Thai student was ahead of the curve and I still love it to this day! Now it was time to renew the website, a redesign was necessary! The new site should be rather simple, just a personal business card.

Viele Jahre konnte die Seite aktualisiert werden und das Design, welches ich von einem Thailändischen Studenten erworben hatte, war der Zeit voraus und gefiel mir bis zum heutigen Tag! Nun war es an der Zeit die Webseite zu erneuern, ein redesign drängte sich auf! Die neue Seite sollte eher schlicht werden, einfach eine persönliche Visitenkarte.


Freelance and award winner Markus Bruegger has spezialized in the field of travelphotography. Taking photographs means for him the catching of stories told by the moment. Especially during his journeys in South East Asia. He realized these moments very intensively. These pictures even show a glance in the soul of the people and the scenery.

From my home Bern in Switzerland, I work as an independent photographer and was accredited as an official photographer by both, TAT Switzerland and the Thai Puplic Relations Department. My work comprises various fields of photography and my images are published in magazines, on web sites, brochures and are used for advertising and commercial print media.

I take photos as a travel photographer for many years mainly in Thailand. The highlights were the countless birthday celebrations of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej, also called Phumiphon Adunlayadet or Rama IX, as well as the 50th and 60th anniversary of His Majesty's throne, which I've been able to attend as a western photo journalist and so delighted got an award in the category Best International Media, presented by the former Prime Minister of Thailand.
